Our sole focus is mobilizing Democratic voters. Since 2015, we’ve utilized innovative voter contact approaches that allow us to connect with inconsistent Democratic voters at their doors, through personal networks, via handwritten postcards, and other data-driven and cost-effective strategies.

Our Programs
Progressive Turnout Project boosts Democratic voter turnout with data-driven organizing, trained Campaign Fellows, and handwritten postcards to key voters—driving measurable results in critical races.
Knocking Doors (Distributed Organizing)
What it does: Recruits, hires, and trains Democrats in exurban and rural areas to knock doors that traditional campaigns don’t reach.
Why it matters: In 2022, more than 90% of the voters PTP talked with weren’t contacted at their door by any other campaign.
How we do it: A sophisticated turf selection tool allows outreach beyond campaign offices, reaching overlooked areas and voters.

Campaign Fellows
What it does: Embeds trained Democratic organizers on to competitive congressional and legislative campaigns.
Why it matters: Even one additional full-time staffer can make a difference in critical down-ballot races.
Long-term impact: Builds a Democratic talent pipeline, equipping new organizers with field skills for future elections.
Postcards to Swing States
What it does: A volunteer-driven handwritten messaging program targeting inconsistent Democratic voters.
Why it matters: This wildly popular program covers most competitive elections nationwide and boosts turnout by 1%.
Impact so far: More than 400,000 volunteers from every U.S. state and territory have participated.

Turnout Mail
What it does: Delivers critical voting information alongside rigorously tested messages proven to increase participation from Democratic voters.
Why it matters: Most campaigns prioritize flashy mailers and attack ads to swing voters over informative turnout mail to key Democratic voters who need that information and a reminder to vote.
Where we invest: PTP prioritizes supporting congressional candidates in states without strong and well-funded statewide campaigns (like a Senate or gubernatorial race).
Turnout Grants and more
In addition to its core programs, PTP has invested more than $3 million in funding and grants to other innovative programs, like relational organizing, barber and beauty shop engagement, and youth turnout. We continue to engage with grassroots groups across the country to identify more impactful investments.

Progressive Turnout Project is already rallying Democrats to vote in key special and statewide elections. As we look to 2026, our priorities include taking back the U.S. House and Senate, winning key gubernatorial races, and securing majorities in statehouses across the country.
